Adoption Journal Update

Kurt Vonnegut is my favorite author.  His mural was painted in Indianapolis as a part of their Super Bowl Celebration.  I stated reading Vonnegut novels in high school as a part of our class assignment.  As young adult I read another, Breakfast of Champions and then was hooked.  I’ve read them all.  Second favorite author, Dr Seuss J.  How about you?  Could you put together a top 5 list for your adoption journal?

Your Agency Can Be Frustrating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is a scenario that hopeful adoptive couples face: Recently you went to the trouble of creating a new profile. Then your agency implemented a new policy that incorporates a different profile format. You are frustrated by the new procedure and don’t want your hard work and money to go out the window.
Parents, agencies don’t sit around dreaming of ways for you to spend more money. They made the change to help you. You chose them because you believed in them.  Ask plenty of questions about the new process with an open mind.  Educate yourself on why the changes were implemented and how they will benefit you.

Updating your Adoption Journal at www.parentfinder.com

Keely and I enjoy throwing a blanket out on the grass and sharing a picnic dinner.  Every weekend in the summer the symphony plays an outdoor concert.  We listen, eat, and dance under the summer sky.  It’s a kid friendly event.  What a great way to introduce children to a world of music and outdoor fun!
Do you have a weekend activity in the summer?  Write about it in your adoption journal located in your profile at www.parentfinder.com  Don’t forget to illustrate it with a photo!

If your adoptive parent profiles aren’t mobile friendly, you failed them

Every month a women goes into the ER experiencing abdominal pain.  She learns that the pain is due to labor from pregnancy.  The news of pregnancy comes as a total surprise.  She delivers knowing that parenting isn’t an option and begins searching for adoption agencies and looking at profiles on her phone while in recovery.  It may seem extreme, but it happens.  Over 65% of all expectant birth moms search for agencies and view profiles on their phone.  If your agency’s website isn’t mobile responsive, you lose.  If your adoptive parent profiles aren’t mobile friendly, you failed them.

Adoption Profile Tip - Adding a Journal Update

Adoption Journal update: My daughter Carly wanted a retro bike she could ride to work.  She found an old bike “For Free”. Telling me she wanted to strip it, paint it, add a new seat and handle bar grips and make it new, I thought it sounded like a great project we could do together.  I took it apart, stripped off the paint, sanded it, washed it and painted it.  I had never done anything like that.  YouTube videos showed me step by step what to do.  Yesterday she helped me put it together.  Her smile let me know that the time I spent stripping off the paint was so worth it!
What did you do over the weekend?  It only takes a few sentences illustrated with a photo.  That story may be the one that resonates with a birth mom. Go to www.parentfinder.com and add a journal entry to your adoption profile.

Adoption Profile tip - From the Heart

When my kids were young we couldn’t afford ballet classes.  I worked out a deal with the school to trade professional services in exchange classes.  I was never able to sit and watch a ballet performance because I was shooting video for the school.  My sacrifice allowed them to pursue their dreams. There is so much value in that!

I know adoptive parents who placed because they talked about going the extra mile.  Have you done that with your adoption profile?  Make it an Adoption Journal Update – what lengths will you go for a child, make it real, relevant, and heart felt.

Adoption Journal update - what did you do over the weekend?

Adoption Journal update - My grandmother had a strawberry patch at the edge of her garden.  In May when I visited her farm I helped her pick strawberries and make jam.  She shared the jam with friends and family and stories of her childhood with me.  We share our berries too.  This past Saturday and Sunday I made 24 pints of strawberry jam.  I share stories of the farm with my girls.  Share a story of family unity in your adoption journal – Don’t forget to illustrate it with a photo!
