Adoption Journal Update

Kurt Vonnegut is my favorite author.  His mural was painted in Indianapolis as a part of their Super Bowl Celebration.  I stated reading Vonnegut novels in high school as a part of our class assignment.  As young adult I read another, Breakfast of Champions and then was hooked.  I’ve read them all.  Second favorite author, Dr Seuss J.  How about you?  Could you put together a top 5 list for your adoption journal?

Your Agency Can Be Frustrating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is a scenario that hopeful adoptive couples face: Recently you went to the trouble of creating a new profile. Then your agency implemented a new policy that incorporates a different profile format. You are frustrated by the new procedure and don’t want your hard work and money to go out the window.
Parents, agencies don’t sit around dreaming of ways for you to spend more money. They made the change to help you. You chose them because you believed in them.  Ask plenty of questions about the new process with an open mind.  Educate yourself on why the changes were implemented and how they will benefit you.

If your adoptive parent profiles aren’t mobile friendly, you failed them

Every month a women goes into the ER experiencing abdominal pain.  She learns that the pain is due to labor from pregnancy.  The news of pregnancy comes as a total surprise.  She delivers knowing that parenting isn’t an option and begins searching for adoption agencies and looking at profiles on her phone while in recovery.  It may seem extreme, but it happens.  Over 65% of all expectant birth moms search for agencies and view profiles on their phone.  If your agency’s website isn’t mobile responsive, you lose.  If your adoptive parent profiles aren’t mobile friendly, you failed them.

Adoption Profile tip - From the Heart

When my kids were young we couldn’t afford ballet classes.  I worked out a deal with the school to trade professional services in exchange classes.  I was never able to sit and watch a ballet performance because I was shooting video for the school.  My sacrifice allowed them to pursue their dreams. There is so much value in that!

I know adoptive parents who placed because they talked about going the extra mile.  Have you done that with your adoption profile?  Make it an Adoption Journal Update – what lengths will you go for a child, make it real, relevant, and heart felt.

Marking a difference with adoption agencies, makes a difference

"We have seen a very definite increase in birth mother calls, many of which have resulted in placements since CAIRS began our e Marketing campaign. Also a different demographic of birth mothers are contacting us-more educated, more middle class.  It has been very interesting to see it all play out. We're so thankful for your efforts!" – Laura, Adoptions by Shepherd Care

Your adoption profile - telling a better story

As a parent who has already written your adoption profile once or twice, look at rewriting as an opportunity to tell a better story.  Having spent 13 years writing professionally and another 15 writing for business I come at this with finger tips calloused from rewriting.

Think about this, when you get together with friends and begin telling stories, it’s probably not the first time you've told that story.  Each time you tell it, you refine it, cutting out the fat while sharing the best parts.  Your adoption profile is no different.  The gems of your story deserve to be told, those are the nuggets you want to share with an expectant birth mother and ultimately a child.

Is your Adoption Agency's Website Mobile Friendly?

Google has changed the way your agency is ranked during searches.  More weight is given to agencies who have a mobile friendly site.  Currently 65% of expectant Birth Moms navigate the web using a mobile device.  If your site isn't mobile friendly you’ll need to create a new site. Retrofitting your existing site isn't something that works.  Here is a free test from Google that lets you test check to see if it’s responsive.
