Adoption Journal Update
Adoption Journal update: For me, the month of May and the Indy 500 is a
little like December and Christmas for kids. The stories, ghosts, anticipation,
and traditions build excitement for THE day. I fry chicken, cut up watermelon, bag
up grapes, and peanuts. Then I then load
the food and drinks in insulated back packs that we take to the race. Using
frozen bottle of water rather than ice saves space and gives us more cold
drinks for the walk back to the car.
We watch the 500 festival parade while I cook
the chicken. We don’t fry food very
often, but chicken at the race is a tradition we’ve kept for 28 years.
We identify food with traditions. What is your
favorite meal to prepare? Why? Capture that in an adoption journal update.

Time to Update Your Adoption Journal
Adoption
Journal Update:
Sunday I attended the ballet with my dad. He was trained as an artist from the time he
was in middle school receiving a scholarship to collage. His passion for illustrating led to a career
as a commercial artist creating artwork for nationally recognized brands. All
three of his kids, myself included, have been touched by art. Yesterday he cried as he watched his
granddaughter dance the lead in Swan Lake.
She’s danced for 15 or her 18 years.
He sees in her the same passion for the arts he felt at that age. She too has a scholarship. A special bond. A warm moment in time to witness.
With Memorial Day approaching, think about your heritage,
your family, and those special pieces of family history you want to share with
a child. Mention one in an adoption
journal post – don’t forget to illustrate it with a photo!

Adoptive Parent Profiles - Change is hard
As we implement Parentfinder's Family Marketing Program
with agencies, some parents ask why?
They've gone to the pains to create a profile, why change it? The short answer, because it shortens wait
times. Would you rather be seen in one location with a profile that isn't
mobile friendly, or in multiple locations?
Your agency's site, Parentfinder, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, your own
website, Vimeo and YouTube are all utilized. We get you out in multiple places,
with a rich profile and it works. My question to parents, why aren't you
demanding it?

Updating Your Adoption Journal - How did you Mother's Day?
How did you celebrate Mother’s Day? What a great adoption journal post! Describe your day, illustrate it with a
photo. Make wise use of your words,
telling the story without being wordy. Every
time you add insight to who you are and how you see the world, you provide an
opportunity for your message to be heard by a birth mom. It may be that nugget
of your life that resonates with her.

Marking a difference with adoption agencies, makes a difference
"We have seen a very definite increase in birth mother calls, many of which have resulted in placements since CAIRS began our e Marketing campaign. Also a different demographic of birth mothers are contacting us-more educated, more middle class. It has been very interesting to see it all play out. We're so thankful for your efforts!" – Laura, Adoptions by Shepherd Care
